NSD Electric Wins Bid for China’s First 4 × 600 MW Wide-Load Hydro-Wind-Solar Complementary Governor System Project

Xulong Hydropower Station governor system project supported by NSD Electric

Xulong Hydropower Station, developed by China Energy Investment Corporation, is located in the upper reaches of the Jinsha River, surrounded by high mountains and deep valleys. The project plays an important role in China’s national energy strategy and ecological protection. At present, the construction of the hydropower station has entered a critical stage.

NSD Electric won the bid for the governor and auxiliary equipment project at Xulong Hydropower Station.

After a rigorous bidding process, Nengshida Electric Co., Ltd. (“NSD Electric”) successfully won the bid for the governor and auxiliary equipment project at Xulong Hydropower Station. The generating units of the station represent China’s first large-capacity, wide-load, hydro-wind-solar complementary mega hydropower units.

Xulong Hydropower Station is the 12th key project in the “one reservoir and 13 cascade stations” hydropower development plan for the upper reaches of the Jinsha River. Located at the junction of Garzê in Sichuan Province and Diqing in Yunnan Province, the project is one of China’s key projects started during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. It is also the first large-scale hydropower station approved in the Yangtze River Basin after the implementation of the Yangtze River Protection Law, giving the project important milestone significance.

The project has a total investment of RMB 29.3 billion and a total installed capacity of 2.4 GW. It will be equipped with four Francis turbine-generator units, each with a unit capacity of 600 MW. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 847 million cubic meters and a normal water level of 2,302 meters. Once completed, the station is expected to generate 10.5 billion kWh of electricity annually.

The units adopt advanced wide-load high-efficiency operation technology. Their key advantage lies in maintaining stable and efficient operation under different water head and load conditions. This helps address the industry challenge of efficiency decline under fluctuating load conditions in traditional hydropower units.

At the same time, the regulating capability of hydropower can help smooth the intermittent fluctuations of wind and photovoltaic power generation, significantly improving the stability and reliability of clean energy supply. The uniqueness of the project also provides NSD Electric with valuable practical experience for the development of similar equipment and solutions in the future.

Winning the bid for Xulong Hydropower Station marks an important milestone for NSD Electric in supporting national energy strategy and achieving technical progress in clean energy control equipment. It also reflects the company’s continued commitment to hydropower control systems, turbine governor systems, and secondary control equipment for large-scale clean energy projects.

NSD Electric will continue to deepen its technical development and engineering application capabilities in core control equipment for hydropower and pumped storage projects, contributing to the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.
