On the morning of the 8th, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference, the Academicians Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology were held in Beijing.
President Xi Jinping presented awards to the recipients of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award and other honorees, and delivered an important speech.
The project “Key Technologies for the Baihetan Hydropower Station Mega-Hub Project,” led by China Three Gorges Corporation, received the First Prize of the 2025 State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.

A World-Class Clean Energy Project
With the world’s largest generating units by individual capacity, Baihetan Hydropower Station is a world-class mega clean energy hub and a core project of China’s West-to-East Power Transmission Program.
During its construction, the research and construction teams overcame a series of world-class technical challenges, including the construction of an ultra-high arch dam, the development of massive underground cavern complexes, and flood discharge and energy dissipation under exceptionally high flow conditions.
The project achieved 12 world-first records and established a fully independent and controllable technological system for mega-scale hydropower engineering. These achievements represent a major step forward in China’s independent development of core hydropower technologies and demonstrate that the country’s hydropower industry has entered the world’s leading ranks.

NSD Electric Recognized for Its Contribution
During the construction of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the Jinsha River Basin Hydropower Project Labor Competition Committee held a special commendation ceremony at the project site to recognize outstanding teams and individuals.
With dependable product quality, efficient project services, and a strong performance in overcoming construction challenges, NSD Electric received two honors in the 2022 Baihetan Hydropower Project construction program: “Advanced Work Team” and “Excellent Supplier.”
Xu Wei, Deputy General Manager of NSD Electric’s Governing and Hydraulics Business Division, was also awarded the title of “Outstanding Baihetan Builder.”
These honors recognized NSD Electric’s product quality, project service capabilities, and dedicated contribution to the construction of Baihetan Hydropower Station.

Supporting China’s Green Energy Transition
All 16 one-million-kilowatt generating units at Baihetan Hydropower Station are now in operation.
The station can deliver more than 62 billion kWh of clean electricity annually. Each year, it can save nearly 20 million metric tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50 million metric tons.
Baihetan Hydropower Station provides strong support for China’s carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality goals while contributing to the country’s green energy transition.

Moving Forward with Clean Energy Innovation
Looking ahead, NSD Electric will continue to deepen its expertise in the clean energy sector, advance the development of core technologies, and improve its high-end products.
Through continued technological innovation, the company will support more national-level mega projects and contribute to the continued global leadership of China’s hydropower and new energy industries.
